We know new contents in the form of blog posts, news updates etc are critical to SEO ranking. It is about telling Google the contents your website is presenting to readers searching for information on the web.
And after taking care of the SEO technical structure (read How To Do SEO), what you need as you are producing original contents of high quality and maintaining your SEO ranking is to follow the steps in our article SEO for Beginners.
You would have heard of content marketing, is it the same as SEO? Let me attempt to put some perspective around this content marketing vs SEO debate.
To me, a SEO practitioner is not the same as a content marketing professional but both have to work together closely.
A person involved in content marketing knows thoroughly what the company or the website is trying to promote, be it a product, a service or some knowledge database. He or she is the subject matter expert and is good at packaging contents and copy writing them for the reading pleasure of targeted audience.
An SEO expert knows the nitty gritty of Google ranking factors but may not necessarily have the domain knowledge around the niche, though he or she may well possess the knowledge by chance.
Depending on the company structure, there may be two persons doing the 2 jobs independently. And that’s fine.
The one thing that needs to happen however is that the person in charge of content marketing must know how to structure the uploading of the contents on the CMS so that SEO requirements are taken care of.
Another way is the content marketing team can focus on their content production but the SEO expert is the one doing fine-tuning, slight editing to the contents when they published on the website.
So, content marketing and SEO are two different functions but they must be seamlessly integrated.
