Google Adsense is an advertising platform from Google whereby Google uses to push advertisements to your website, and this provides one of the ways that a website owner is able to monetize its site and the traffic it is getting.
However, in order to start making money online this way, you first need to register for a Google Adsense account and getting it approved. Many people have gone through the approval process, and sorry to say, it is not the most easy thing. A lot of people have great difficulty getting approved with Google and unfortunately it is also hard sometimes to get exact information from Google what may have gone wrong.
As a result of this difficulty in getting Adsense approval, there is even a market selling approved Adsense accounts!
I have had my fair share of bad experiences myself but I had my success eventually.
By the way, there is no easy get around trick from this article but I have put together some key pointers as a checklist for you before you even hit that submit button for approval.
Website Design
The first obvious thing is to have a nice website design, presentable and professional. It does not mean you have to engage professional website designers but the look and feel, the website logo, the photos and images used should be good enough.
Consider using a paid WordPress theme too if you are using WordPress.
Great Content
Your website must have original and useful content. The quality and quantity of content are both important. Do not rush to get Adsense approval if you are just starting out.
At this point, you may be wondering how much content is required for Google to approve your Adsense account application. Well, the available information out there differs widely in terms of website content density required for approval. Some claim they have managed to get approval with just 10 blog articles.
I would suggest that you strive to at least have 50 good length articles (at least 500 words) first before you embark on the process.
Essential Website Elements
These are considered essential, you need to have About page, Contact page and Privacy Policy page. Specifically for the Privacy Policy, also refer to exact Google information that they want included in the privacy policy statement. Do ensure you comply with these page requirements.
Avoid Certain Niches
If you are starting a blog or a niche website and Google Adsense is planned to be a key way to monetize your website, then you need to pay attention to this point. My understanding is that Google has stopped approving Adsense for websites with the following niche themes: making money online, marketing, website design, SEO.
You can still work on these niches but note Adsense approval may be near impossible.
Free From Other Ad Networks
Before you get Adsense approval, you also want to ensure that your website is free from other Ad networks such as Chitika, Infolinks etc.
The above pointers do not look so daunting but I guess the key is ensuring you have content that you can be proud of. If you already enjoy certain readership and you are confident you are providing valuable original content which is useful to many people, Google will definitely be happy to establish a win-win partnership with you through their Display network ad platform.
Many people will also have the question of whether Google takes your website traffic into consideration during the approval process. Google has not explicitly stated such prerequisite in terms of minimum amount of website traffic. To me, I view it as a chicken and egg issue. Even if you have Adsense approval, you are not going to benefit much from Adsense income if you do not have good volume of page views.
Therefore, work on driving traffic to your website for lead generation as well as increasing your Adsense revenue. You can read my article on using low competition keywords as a key SEO strategy so as to get page 1 ranking for many of your keywords, getting tonnes of traffic.
Good luck!
