Have you ever wondered how you can become a food blogger or influencer? I am always fascinated with influencer marketing in Singapore, so let me share some tips today.
Well, it is not that difficult but it pays to follow a certain process. It is also useful to read my other article How To Make Money Online as the steps are similar.
The first thing you want to do is to ask yourself if you like to eat food generally. There is that saying Eat to Live Vs Live To Eat. You must belong to that category of Live To Eat. I know of people planning eating places they must visit when they travel. Yes, you must belong here.
And no, you don’t necessarily have to be able to cook although it helps greatly!
Next, is there any specific genre of food you like to eat, or you are more exposed to, or you know quite a bit? Western, Chinese, Japanese, fine dining, hawker food, local food etc etc. This is to really narrow down your specialty and to shape your branding.
With the above, choose a brand name for yourself, this brand name can be used for deciding your website domain name, your Instagram account name, your Facebook Page name, your YouTube channel name etc. I am naming a number of social media platforms here but you can start with one first and then extend out later.
Note though a multitude of platforms always helps.
Next, of course you set up a food blogging website (and you can check out my Checklist For Starting A Blog), your Instagram account and so on. For a food influencer, you need a certain number of followers before you attain a certain degree of influencer status.
And there are more and more people aspiring to be a food influencer.
Therefore you need to stand out and again content is king.
As a food blogger, you will absolutely have an edge if you possess the following skills:
- great food photography
- food video taking and production
- blogging skills, and knowledge on particular type of food, history, able to critique food intelligently
You need to build up your followers, so you need to post new contents regularly. Which means you should really be visiting various food outlets and reviewing them, snapping photos and videos as you go along.
If you have friends who are food influencers, tell them your particular food passion and ask nicely for them to bring you along to some food tasting sessions organized by restaurants and PR agencies.
Try to be unique and create a special style for yourself, be it your food photography or video or your writing style.
Be tireless too. My interactions with food bloggers and influencers tell me they seize every opportunity to create food content, even if it is food we eat every day. Trust that there will be some twist even for very ordinary food.
After this, just enjoy the entire process as you continue building up your followers. Be sincere and truthful too when you do your food recommendations. There will come a tipping point when enough followers actually tune in to your social media channels for valuable guidance.
