Social Media and SEO are two ways to create free or organic traffic. I have explained these two in Social Media Presence and How To Do SEO. And social media traffic also provides back-links and helps in your SEO.
But when you have limited resources, which one do you focus on?
I think a large part depends on understanding your target audience and knowing where they would more likely find out about your company, and your products and services.
Some people say SEO is dead, that nobody googles for information any more. I think that’s an over-statement.
However, it may be true that for certain products or services, it is trending towards social media that people discovers new offerings.
And in certain countries, people are just spending more time on social media like Facebook and even carrying out search within social media platform.
If you have to focus on one, then do some homework on what is going to work better for you.
Contents can actually be re-purposed and I find that sometimes a piece of content can be adapted for both social and SEO, that way you are maximizing usage of good contents and driving traffic through social media as well as SEO.
SEO is not rocket science though you have to keep up with changes in search algorithms from time to time.
