Another important component of your overall digital marketing plan is your social media presence.
On the surface, this seems an easy task but there are a number of To-Dos to get this done right.
Who Is Your Target Audience?
The first thing to ask is who is your target audience and are they on the social media, especially when they are finding out information about your products and services.
Most likely, the answer is yes. Then the next question is which social media platform is the best one to use.
It takes time and effort to first design and then maintain and regularly update any social media account. Therefore, choose platforms which are most efficient to reach your target audience. I would recommend you consider the core ones like Facebook, Instagram, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
Digital Assets
Your social media presence, very much like your website, is supposed to engage your audience, provide information or become an authority for a particular subject matter. Good contents are therefore important. Digital assets like good images, photographs and videos will greatly enhance the appeal of your contents which you are putting out there.
When setting up and designing your social media accounts, use profile pictures which are eye catching and representative of your businesses. You may want to invest in getting the professionals to do the initial branding, graphics design, and create some nice photos and videos.
Have Great Contents
By far, the best way to build up your followers over time is to share great contents. Great and informative contents are shared, and sharing brings more followers. Sharing is what gets contents viral.
Creating original contents which are useful and informative, and perhaps sometime fun would be how you ultimately differentiate yourself from others. Invest in this area and soon you will see the results. This all takes time, so be patient too.
You may also put in place steps to acquire followers through paid Ads but even with paid campaigns, contents are equally important.
Regular Updates
I can’t over-emphasize that keeping your accounts up to date with new contents is critical. It is about engagements, make your audience look forward to the next piece of contents from you.
Having said so, I do believe in quality rather than quantity. I have seen some frequently updated social media accounts lose their appeal because they compromise on the quality of contents they are producing, just because they believe they need to post contents every day.
There you are, the best-practice check-list:
- Understand your target audience and choose appropriate social media platforms
- Invest in digital assets
- Produce original and great contents
- Regularly update your accounts with new contents
Combining well maintained social media presence and paid social media ads will lead to much success in the social media space for you. You can also read about a case study we did on Facebook Marketing in Singapore.
