I am back to the subject of keyword research as it is such an important step when executing your SEO strategy.
Earlier I have also suggested to use low competition keywords to help you rank for multiple long-tailed keywords even if their search volume may be lower.
Today, I am going to focus strictly on the top 5 keyword research tools to help you along. Some of these are paid services but you can always start with the free resources available.
And instead of me writing, there is a great video by Pat Flynn who is a very successful internet marketer himself.
The 5 tools are:
- Google Webmaster
The one thing that I want to elaborate on is using Search Analytics of Google Webmaster, perhaps not as the initial keyword research but to using it as a keyword fine-tuning tool if you will.
There may be keywords which you are ranking well but not too well (say bottom of page 1) which you may now want to optimize to bring them to top of page 1.
There could be keywords which you have not deliberately tried to rank for but they are ranking on page 2 or slightly further. This is potential to reach a wider audience if you optimize the keywords further.
Below is a snapshot of the last 28-day Search Analytics of financial blog Journeywithmoney which I talked about in Importance of SEO. The website now ranks on page 1 for about 500 keywords.

There is a keyword Value Investing which has huge search volume of 22,200 which the website has average ranking position of 9.7. Potentially this keyword can be optimized further to greatly increase the number of clicks, thus traffic.
