In the post SEO for Wedding Photographers, we illustrated that one SEO strategy is keyword research to look for low competition keywords. From Kwfinder the keyword Wedding Photographer has good monthly search volume and a keyword difficulty of 34 which is defined as still easy to rank.
Wedding Photographer as a keyword is considered as a short-tailed keyword, so I was quite surprised to find the relatively lower difficulty level.
Of course my experience is that even paid SEO tools out there like Kwfinder, LongTailPro etc may not be absolutely 100% accurate some time. However, these tools provide a good enough basis for SEO practitioners to carry out their all important keyword research and come out with a list of keywords that they want to rank for; keywords which are of good search volume and yet not too difficult to rank.
If indeed this keyword is relatively easy to rank, if I have a niche around photography and I am providing professional photo shoot services, I would want to anchor to rank for this keyword.
For this article, I am writing it in such a way that I am as if trying to rank for this keyword Wedding Photographer. This is an experiment I am doing to find out the competition level of the keyword. As a quick summary, I will have the following:
- H1 to contain keyword
- Meta title to contain keyword
- Meta description to contain keyword
- To have internal links
- Image to be renamed as keyword and uploaded with alternate text and description having the keyword
- Embed a video
- Share across social media platforms, especially Google+
As my website is more about digital marketing, internet marketing, social media marketing etc, I am also in parallel interested to find out if the main niche of the website has any bearing on whether a somewhat unrelated keyword can still rank alright.
I will be monitoring the result of this short experiment and I hope to share my findings soon.
