We shared in Importance of SEO the work we have done for blogging website Journeywithmoney.com. The website currently has about 500 keywords ranking on page 1.
Why is page 1 ranking so important?
Well, the answer is obvious if you look at the research result by Chitika. First page websites get 91.5% of Google traffic. If your website is not ranking on page 1, you will not get a lot of organic search traffic.
In fact, if you look further, the No. 1 position garners 32.5% of traffic!
No. 1 position is not easy to achieve and it is also difficult to maintain especially for competitive keywords as your competitors will be working hard to occupy the position.
In my opinion, you should strive to rank on page 1 while those keywords ranked on page 2 will still get some traffic.
From the Journeywithmoney webmaster search analytics, we do see the average Google position getting click throughs is 17.6, so page 2 rankings are still relevant.
While I am on the topic of the webmaster search analytics, let me also talk about using this great report to refine your keyword research and keywords targeting.
The keyword research methodology can be found on How To Do SEO.
By analyzing the clicks and impressions of your website keywords appearing on the webmaster search analytics, you can extend and expand additional potential keywords that you can consider ranking for.
I totally love building up contents of a website so it ranks for as many keywords as possible related to the website niche area.
